The Picture House Longterm Lease: Correction

It has come to our attention that there are inaccuracies on the website with respect to the period during which the Picture House was under long-term lease. We would like to apologise to Redroofs Theatre School for mistakenly positioning them as the leaseholder when in fact it was under private lease to the proprietor of Redroofs, Mrs June Bloom. 

During this time, Mrs Bloom personally financed the conversion of the building from a cinema into a children’s repertory theatre, resulting in many of the wonderful features you can see today such as the wall art, foyer, dressing rooms and orchestra pit.

Given their prominent role in creating the theatre as it stands today, Redroofs is also keen to see the Picturehouse restored to a viable, local theatre and we want to apologise if we implied otherwise and for any offence we may have inadvertently caused.
